Christine (1983)

πŸ”₯ 40th Anniversary

I broke my "no horror September" rule, because they were playing Christine in theaters for the 40th Anniversary, and my parents had never seen it so I had to take them!! We had a great time and they really enjoyed it! I knew they would πŸ˜‰

My mom thought it was SO COOL when Christine was on fire driving around; the practical effects with the car(s) are incredibly impressive in this film.

Resurrection (2022)

This was hard to watch, but in a Cape Fear 1991, Invisible Man 2020, kinda way -- psychological horror TOπŸ‘THEπŸ‘MAXπŸ‘

How much anxiety do you WANT to have??
Because of you're a woman, it's gonna be A LOT.

Maniac Cop (1988)

πŸ”₯ 35th Anniversary

More mystery, thriller, and even drama components than I expected -- actually gave the movie some good depth.

Sleepaway Camp (1983)

πŸ”₯ 40th Anniversary

I know this movie is a "cult classic" or whatever, but it is hot garbage.πŸ˜‚
I'm glad I didn't bother saving it for my Halloween Horrorthon.

The composition of most of the scenes sucks; the character interactions and dialogue are so forced and unnatural; the acting is terrible, and half of the actors that are supposed to be "kids" are probably old enough to drink... it's just painful to watch.

Then my husband's like, "well we have to watch the 2nd one now", and I couldn't even make it 10 minutes into it. πŸ˜‚ I didn't want to waste any more of my life.

The Funhouse (1981)

Tobe Hooper repeats Texas Chainsaw Massacre, just in a carnival setting this time 🀷 i.e. mentally twisted family, deformed adult son who has been abused and is now physically strong and dangerous, group of teenaged interlopers, you get the idea.

There's Nothing Out There (1991)

This movie is the epitome of "dumb but fun". πŸ˜‚

There are actually some impressive-for-low-budget practical effects deaths, but the monster is definitely hokey in a hilarious way. The fifth-wheel friend's meta exasperation at their all being trapped in a horror film was enjoyable.

The Hills Have Eyes (1977)

Since it's been hot as hell this week, I figured it was a perfect time to watch the original Hills Have Eyes for the first time. Wes Craven just KNOWS how to make things disturbing.

Do Horror Movies Have to "Scare" You to be Good?

"Some of the best and most effective horror movies are ones that didn't jump out and scare you, but rather left you disturbed and thinking about it long after you'd watched it. The types of movies that you were still thinking about that night, while you were struggling to fall asleep in the dark, suddenly noticing every tiny sound coming from the creaks of the house and the wooshes of water running through pipes."

Ranging from stupid to ridiculous to lame, get ready for bad stunt doubles and all-around absurdity. The only story even remotely worth watching was the 4th one about the mother.

The House of the Devil (2009)

SO MUCH about this film feels Stephen-King-adaptation-esque (and the brief appearance of Dee Wallace in the beginning makes it even moreso), then suddenly you're slammed into modern horror, then slide back into nostalgia, round-and-round again. Really enjoyable to watch, great style, great horror vibes.

The 100 Greatest Overlooked Horror Movies

"There's hundreds of thousands of [horror] movies and if you don't know where to look, you're bound to miss some good ones. Because of the numerous subgenres within subgenres, the VHS boom of the 80's and the constant stream of new shit being released on a weekly basis, combing through the entire history of horror is a daunting task. This list was made to shine a light on a select few you might not have seen that [Screenage Wasteland contributing author Sailor Monsoon thinks] are worth your time."

Apparently not all the links to the pages within this article are working correctly, so I have provided direct links to each page in descending order:

The Canal (2014)

CREEPπŸ‘TASTICπŸ‘ and more brutal than expected. A refreshing indie descent into madness, especially after watching Coherence which was boring.

Side note: love the low-key 70's Italian horror vibe of this promo art.
