Ouija (2014)

Never understood why this movie gets such a bad rap. Sure, it's nothing groundbreaking in the Teen Scream arena, but it at least deserves to be higher up in the barrel. It's got spooky atmosphere, jump scares, a mystery to unravel, and even Lin Shaye! Come on! Overall it's an enjoyable, popcorn, watch-with-friends-in-a-dark-room kinda horror flick.

I stumbled on this movie earlier this year while obsessively searching for the best horror soundtracks on vinyl I could get my hands on. Finally watched the actual movie... it was better than I expected! Intense! Much better than the trailer indicates, FYI. With the doofy commercials at the beginning and the vintage style and effects, it's like watching an old VHS tape!

Recommended on Amazon Prime "because you watched The Descent", so hell yeah I was interested.

Turned out to be pretty cool. Way more story-driven than it seems in the trailer, and the paranormal starts happening before you even realize it and takes you off guard. They worked-in the cave creeps well with the found-footage-style camera action. The "resolution" of their "hunt" was a bit trite, but the whole thing still ended satisfactorily (though predictable).

Last Shift (2014)

Here's the deal: It's low-budget, the acting leaves a lot to be desired, and the ending is predictable, BUT throughout it has some of the best haunting creeps I've seen in a long time. Overall, I'd only give the movie like a 2.5/5, but I do actually recommend watching it solely for the haunt creeps.
