SO MUCH about this film feels Stephen-King-adaptation-esque (and the brief appearance of Dee Wallace in the beginning makes it even moreso), then suddenly you're slammed into modern horror, then slide back into nostalgia, round-and-round again. Really enjoyable to watch, great style, great horror vibes.

Here's the deal: It's low-budget, the acting leaves a lot to be desired, and the ending is predictable, BUT throughout it has some of the best haunting creeps I've seen in a long time. Overall, I'd only give the movie like a 2.5/5, but I do actually recommend watching it solely for the haunt creeps.

This was really interesting, and horrifying in its own unique way. A bizarre mix of historical instruction and dramatic presentation... but why devils always churning butter?! Churning butter all the time!

Aging beatniks interpret the original.
WOW this is pretty awesome. You have to have watched the original to appreciate what they've done with it. They sped up the footage a little bit, making it even more surreal. William S. Burroughs' narrations and the translations of the dialogue cards are modernized quite nicely. But by far the BEST aspect is the Jazz score replacing the original score, which really orchestrates the action on the screen in a much more appealing way.

I want to say this move is underrated, but I can't.
Visually it's fantastic, it really is, and the cast is great (Meg Foster, wow!)... but something falls flat along the way... something's wrong, I can't quite put my finger on it... maybe it's trying too hard? taking itself too seriously? too much visual, not enough story? Seems like I should like it more than I do, but I just don't. 🤷

One of my all-time FAVORITES!
The absolute pinnacle of The Exorcist series, and an underappreciated gem of the horror genre. Directed by William Peter Blatty himself (original author of "The Exorcist"), and featuring powerhouse George C. Scott and (again) the inimitable Brad Dourif. There is a lot of dialogue (and monologue by the Gemini Killer), but the film style is evocative and atmospheric, enjoyable to watch, with an interesting twist on the classic horror premise of killer-returned-from-the-dead.

Full of campy goodness: the cultists! the punching! the religious symbolism all mixed together with mythology and astrology into a nonsensical soup...
Hammer Films, Christopher Lee ❤, and I just happened to catch in the opening credits on this viewing that it was written by Richard Matheson, and I thought, "...wait, THE Richard Matheson??", so I looked it up and by-golly it IS, indeed, the sci-fi author of "I Am Legend" fame! So I fangirled about that for a few minutes.

My friend had warned me that this was not good. I ignored him and watched it anyway. This was alright, actually. Some good creeps; standard religious/demon/possession stuff, but not as lame as he made me think it would be. Glad I ignored him. Will I watch it again ever? Meh, probably not. Also the Nun totally was Marilyn Manson I'm pretty sure. 🤣
