Warning Shadows (1923)

🎃 Horrorthon 2023 #22 🔥 100th Anniversary

This 100-year-old horror movie was... slow... and tame, to say the least, lol.
It's a silent film and there are NO title cards (on purpose), so there was a lot of clumsy inferring, and definitely some confusion about the nature of relationships within the story.
However, still at least somewhat interesting as a piece of history: with the German expressionism and all the shadows; the "magician"(witch?) and the madness and the murder, then the big reveal which was actually pretty cool.

Too much sorority & social media B.S., made it kind of a torture to watch, lol.

Body Bags (1993)

🎃 Horrorthon 2023 #17 🔥 30th Anniversary

Nothing to write home about.
It was mildly entertaining recognizing the not-traditionally-actors members of the cast throughout (there are FIVE major horror directors playing bit-parts in this movie) and so many notable actors! and it was fun watching John Carpenter in his cryptkeeper-style mortuary assistant narrator role, as cheesy as his performance was, lol.

Just... the stories are weird and kinda bland, and too slow-paced. The horror is mostly body-horror which I'm not big into. I have yet to find an anthology that's anything but mediocre.

I can now cross it off my Carpenter to-watch list, but probably will never return to it.
Sorry, John, they can't all be gold.😆

House of 1000 Corpses (2003)

🎃 Horrorthon 2023 #9 🔥 20th Anniversary

  20th anniversary showing in theater!
Just as much of a wild & crazy ride as I remember, lol.

There was an introduction by Rob Zombie, in which he says the house they used was the same one from The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, so I'm gonna have to check that out.

Ju-on: The Grudge (2002)

🎃 Horrorthon 2023 #3.3

This was very disappointing.
Not scary; boring; seemed more like a Scary Movie spoof than the original version of one of my favorite horror movies. Maybe I didn't give it enough of a chance: I couldn't even finish it, only got about 1/3 of the way through. From what I did watch, it appears the 2004 American remake used the original storyline and structure, just made it 1000-times more scary and interesting.

Sleepaway Camp (1983)

🔥 40th Anniversary

I know this movie is a "cult classic" or whatever, but it is hot garbage.😂
I'm glad I didn't bother saving it for my Halloween Horrorthon.

The composition of most of the scenes sucks; the character interactions and dialogue are so forced and unnatural; the acting is terrible, and half of the actors that are supposed to be "kids" are probably old enough to drink... it's just painful to watch.

Then my husband's like, "well we have to watch the 2nd one now", and I couldn't even make it 10 minutes into it. 😂 I didn't want to waste any more of my life.

Candyman (1992)

🎃 Horrorthon 2022 #26 🔥 30th Anniversary

Got to watch this outside with our projector! It was an unseasonably warm autumn evening, we had a group of friends get together, and it was a lot of fun! Still one of my all-time favorite horror flicks, but my son was unimpressed.😆

This was VERY different, but refreshing -- bizarre, beautiful and interesting, and disturbing in so many ways.

Here's a great article about the movie: The startling story behind Hatching's horrifying puppet-monster

I haven't watched this for probably two decades. Held up very nicely! Excellent nostalgic, verge-of-the-millennium flick. Kevin Bacon: great, as always!

Halloween Kills (2021)

🎃 Horrorthon 2021 #41

Finished off my Halloween franchise marathon this year with the current release.

I have to say: I'm not impressed with the direction they went on this one. Disappointing after the strong 2018 remake.
