Warning Shadows (1923)

🎃 Horrorthon 2023 #22 🔥 100th Anniversary

This 100-year-old horror movie was... slow... and tame, to say the least, lol.
It's a silent film and there are NO title cards (on purpose), so there was a lot of clumsy inferring, and definitely some confusion about the nature of relationships within the story.
However, still at least somewhat interesting as a piece of history: with the German expressionism and all the shadows; the "magician"(witch?) and the madness and the murder, then the big reveal which was actually pretty cool.

House of Wax (1953)

🎃 Horrorthon 2023 #8 🔥 70th Anniversary

This was one of the first films released in COLOR 3D, and boy did they market it that way 😂 I couldn't even find a trailer that actually previewed the movie, just ones with SHOUTING about the 3D!

There was definitely the hokey "this movie's in 3D" camera shots that stick out like a sore thumb and make you roll your eyes when you're watching it "flat" 70 years later, but otherwise this was a good Vincent Price murder-mystery horror, with a creepy setting and some pretty damn impressive wax figures throughout.

I would have sworn I watched this before, but none of it seemed familiar. I think I was misrememebering it as some anthology that was set in a house of wax from the 60's or 70's.

Alone in the Dark (1982)

🎃 Horrorthon 2022 #19 🔥 40th Anniversary

One of the better horror flicks to come out of 1982, with immensely creepy performances from Jack Palance and Martin Landau.

Invaders from Mars (1953)

This movie went in all kinds of directions -- like a 1950's educational short tacked onto a cold war propaganda reel, with a noir car chase thrown in, then finally into the under-ground spaceship and the fantastic vintage sci-fi I was looking forward to! ...which lasted about 15 minutes.

Attack of the Demons (2020)

My teenage son got a kick out of this, but I'm pretty sure in an ironic way. Amateur production, and the results reflect that, especially the dialogue and voice-acting.

The Brain (1988)

OMFG there's so much stupid wrong with this movie 😂 including the lamest car chase ever filmed (probably). However, the irony of the "Independent Thinkers" television program is creepy AF.

A Bucket of Blood (1959)

🎃 Horrorthon 2021 #36

Lonely, socially isolated, "simple" busboy, descends into murderous madness in a desperate attempt to earn acceptance within the local beatnik scene. B-movie GOLD. (and yes, that is Mr. Futterman from Gremlins)

First time I've ever actually watched this all the way through. More like a pre-murder investigation/mystery than anything else, but now at least I've seen it.

🎃 Horrorthon 2021 #28

This was a snooze-fest for the first 3/4.
The last 1/4 was not that great, either, just had actual monster in it.
...and I have no idea why this movie is called "Prophecy", that word has nothing to do with the content.🤷

🎃 Horrorthon 2019 #9

Bela Lugosi as Unhinged Scientist, straight-up cold-blooded murdering folks with a chemically-engineered bat the size of a bald eagle. So many stereotypes.
